    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist to join us in our Scottsdale, AZ location.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
     

    The EHS Specialist will report directly to the EHS West Region Manager. Responsibilities can include:

    • Assist in developing, managing, and seeking to continually improve all required EHS programs, processes and instructions in order to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including but not limited to US EPA, OSHA, Arizona Department of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH), and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
    • Assisting with compliance to site environmental permits and sampling based on permit requirements to include stormwater auditing and sampling, and air emission data tracking
    • Assisting with compliance to ADOSH/OHSA programs such as:
      • Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs)
      • Compressed Gas Cylinders and Cryogenics
      • Respiratory and Hearing Conservation
      • Oversight and Coordination of Medical Monitoring
      • Routine ergonomic evaluations
      • Risk assessments to evaluate hazardous conditions and practices to develop control solutions utilizing Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
    • Performing routine inspections of entire facility insuring continual audit-ready compliance with EHS policies and procedures
    • Providing new ideas and methods to improve safety and environmental processes
    • Engaging and collaborating with stakeholders to develop a culture of continuously improving performance
    • Monitoring metrics/objectives and all applicable EHS Management Systems (MS) documentation
    • Learn and eventually support managing all aspects of an ISO 14001 / OHSAS 18001 Management System



    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science / Engineering and/or Occupational Health & Safety or related science degree
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules and regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, internal procedures and instructions
    • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills required
    • Highly effective written skills, including the ability to create and update documentation including audit reports, procedures, presentations, and training materials
    • Ability to meet deadlines, multi-task effectively, and deal professionally with all levels of internal customers and co-workers while promoting a climate of positive relationships
    • Strong leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
    • Working experience in the environmental, health and safety field is preferred

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
