  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience.


    Required Skills:

    • Expertise with Accumulo, Hadoop, NiFi, and PKI certificate management utilities 
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience administering Linux/Unix systems 
    • General understanding and experience working with and configuring Linux disk encryption
    • Experience with Linux Volume Manager
    • Experience provisioning, configuring, patching, managing, and securing/hardening systems 
    • Experience administering virtual machines 
    • Experience in developing and implementing system configuration scripts in Perl, Bourne, Bash, and/or C-Shell 
    • Experience creating documentation to outline processes and procedures 
    • General working knowledge of Cisco and/or Dell routers and switches 
    • Experience with:
      • Apache HTTPD
      • Apache Tomcat
      • SQL
      • MongoDB
      • Redis
      • Linux firewall configuration (IP tables)
      • Kickstart
      • NAT and gateway setup
      • Remote server management
      • Server certificates (environment specific), encryption and secure protocols
      • Puppet
      • Yum
      • Use of management tools
      • Building RPMs


    Clearance Requirements:
    Department of Defense TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.     Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Cloud System Administrator.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    • Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
    • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems 
    • Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues 
    • Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchase
    • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
    • Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies 
    • Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users 
    • The Server System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of Server services
    • Performs Server administration for Server Operating Systems
    • Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers
    • Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware
    • Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
    • Performs OS and vendor software patching on servers
    • Monitors Physical and Virtual Servers performance using monitoring tools 
    • Performs, maintains, troubleshoots and does analysis of alerts on Servers
    • Creates scripts to automate repetitive processes 
    • Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Servers that are effecting other services
    • Contributes and executes plans, designs, and implements necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies, procedures for servers
    • Executes and maintains Security Compliancy processes and policies
    • Develops and maintains Server related standards, policies, and procedures
    • Mentor team in the technology to allow them to be more knowledgeably and self-sufficient
    • Reviews and analyzes performance metrics in order to optimize environment for efficiencies
    • Implements administration of physical and virtualized servers using industry standard technologies 
    • Implements administration of servers in lab environments that are physical and virtualized using industry standard technologies
    • Researches and troubleshoots Server technical issues and communicates status to Server team and stakeholders
    • Leads medium sized continuous process improvement efforts 



    • Experience deploying software updates to remote systems (preferred)
    • Experience in planning and implementing requirements associated with the Agency’s Secure the Net (STN) and Secure the Enterprise (STE) initiatives (preferred)
    • Familiarity with Map/Reduce (preferred)
    • Experience with software development and engineering best practices (preferred)
    • Oral and written communication skills, teaming, and time management (preferred)
    • Knowledge of computer/system architectures, software development life cycle, configuration management methods, and software testing principles (preferred)
